Each day I pick out myself
from a wardrobe full of selves,
fashion out the personality
I will demonstrate today,
leave each trait hanging out overnight
to loosen all the creases that form out of sight
Who am I today? I ask
to my fabric council,
with their pre-made judgements
and packet precautions
“Oh no, that’s too short, you’ll look like
a slut”
“That’s too long, you’re a prude”
“Wear less, it’s too hot”
“Why don’t you cover up?”
Picking out my battle armour
trying not to scream
Monochrome stripes or floral?
Whatever the tee can redeem.
